Felsted Choral Society - Rehearsals, Concerts and Events

Felsted Choral Society has been an independent choir since 1985. Although the choir is now self-funding, we're still generously supported by Felsted School and make use of their excellent facilities for regular rehearsals and performances. The Society is managed by charitable Trustees, aided by our Musical Director and Voice Section Representatives. It is pleased to have the the Headmaster as President.

The Society currently numbers over seventy enthusiastic singers, led by our Conductor Roger Lawrence. We are always looking to increase our membership with people who enjoy choral music and welcome new members without audition throughout the season. Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings in the new Music School which is adjacent to Lord Riche Hall on the Felsted School Campus. They are hard work, challenging, hugely enjoyable and designed to give members of all musical levels, a sense of achievement in their singing. As we do not audition, it is essential that members attend sufficient rehearsals so that they become both confident in performance and aware of Roger Lawrence's interpretation of the music. This enables the choir to perform at a very high standard. There is normally an extra rehearsal on the Sunday before a performance and a mandatory dress rehearsal on the afternoon of a concert. For the performance, ladies wear a black skirt/trousers with white blouse and men, a dinner jacket with white shirt and black bow tie. Roger Lawrence also organises trips to major concerts in London. Leaving by coach from Felsted School, these popular visits enable members and friends to widen their experience of music.

Our Repertoire

In terms of musical output our repertoire is wide - from Bach, Caldara and Handel, to Mozart, Bruckner and Verdi, not forgetting Britten, Finzi and Rutter. We're also fortunate to be joined by the Felsted Orchestra for major concerts and to be accompanied at rehearsals by Chris Weston

Our soloists for major concerts are generally professional singers.

Felsted Choral Society Subscriptions

The subscription to Felsted Choral Society is £70 for the 2011 -2012 season and is due in September. Cheques, made payable to Felsted Choral Society together with a completed Registration Slip should be given to Libby Hill at the first rehearsal. Vocal scores are available for hire by members during 2011 - 2012 at a cost of £4 per concert. As you will understand, members will be asked to pay the full cover price for copies damaged, lost or not returned. Members not intending to sing in a concert should return their copies to the Librarian before that concert.
