Roger Lawrence M.A. (Oxon) A.R.C.M. - Conductor and Musical Director Roger Lawrence was educated at the King’s School, Canterbury, where he won an Open Scholarship to Worcester College, Oxford. He was heavily involved in the musical life of the University and was an Academic Clerk at Magdalen College.
After University, Roger taught at St Edward's School, Oxford, and continued to sing with University and City groups. His performances included title roles in "Albert Herring" and "The Rake's Progress". He later became a lay-clerk at New College and sang with The "Clerkes of Oxenford". In addition, he directed the Isis Consort and Wantage Choral Society as well as other school choirs and orchestras.
Roger became Director of Music at Felsted School in 1970 and at various times has conducted the Essex Symphony Orchestra, the Essex Youth Orchestra, The Courtney Singers, the Brentwood Youth Orchestra and Felsted Parish Choir. He is also Sub-Director of the Madrigal Society (founded in 1741), and of the distinguished singing group I Pellegrini. Roger directs the North Essex Wind Ensemble, which he founded in 1977, and is currently Musical Director of the Brentwood Philharmonic Orchestra. Now retired from Felsted School, Roger Lawrence is busy as a freelance singer, oboist, teacher, adjudicator and conductor. He has been Musical Director of Felsted Choral Society since 1978. |
